The Netherlands government has recently unveiled the Erasmus University Scholarship Program for the academic year 2024-2025, exclusively for international students seeking educational opportunities in the Netherlands. This prestigious NL Netherlands Scholarship is generously funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, reflecting the country’s commitment to fostering global education and cultural exchange.
The Erasmus University NL Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship is meant for excellent non-EEA (EEA consists of the EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway) students of English-taught degree programs in Holland.
Erasmus University Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
- You are a national of a non-EEA country (not holding an extra EEA nationality) and hence you have to pay the institutional tuition fee.
- You have never been enrolled as a full-degree student at an educational institution in the Netherlands.
- You have not obtained a diploma at an educational institution in the Netherlands. You are or will be accepted for one of the bachelor programs of ESSB.
- You are considered an excellent applicant, as apparent from your motivation and grade point average at the moment of application (demonstrated through your academic record). The rule of thumb is that the average grade should be equivalent to the Dutch grade of 8.0 on the Dutch grading scale of 1 to 10.
Erasmus University Scholarship Amount And Payment
The Erasmus University NL scholarship amounts from € 5,000 up to € 10,000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies. Please note that this is not a full-time scholarship.
The scholarship will only be rewarded if you start studying in the same program for which you have applied, have been granted admission, and awarded the scholarship.
Application Procedure for Erasmus University Scholarship
The application consists of a motivation letter (one page maximum) where the candidate answers two questions:
- Why do you need the scholarship?
- Why should you be considered an excellent applicant?
The answer to the latter question can, but does not have to, include grades.
Applying for the Erasmus University NL scholarship is possible as of November 1, 2023. The application for the scholarship must include:

Be submitted through the EUR Admissions PortalOpens external (not through email!). You can submit your motivation letter for the NL Scholarship while applying for a bachelor’s program through the portal. Please keep an eye on the application deadline for the bachelor program of your choice.
Please be aware that a scholarship can only be granted after being admitted to the bachelor program. If you have not yet finished your studies, you may get a conditional offer.
